Country star Blake Shelton and his wife, pop icon Gwen Stefani, are stepping into the world of Hollywood production with a new take on a classic: The Wizard of Oz.

While neither are currently set to appear on screen, the couple will serve as executive producers on a fresh, music-driven reimagining of the beloved story.

Titled Dorothy, the project is in development for Amazon Prime Video and comes from Gina Matthews, the producer behind 13 Going on 30. This upcoming series is said to be a young adult-focused retelling of The Wizard of Oz, featuring plenty of music and modern themes aimed at today’s generation.

Though it’s unclear whether Stefani will take on a character like Dorothy or Glinda  it sounds like her main role will be behind the scenes. Her acting experience is limited, with a brief cameo in The Aviator being her only major film credit, though fans will recognize her from years on The Voice. Shelton, meanwhile, has a few on-screen moments to his name, including voicing a pig in The Angry Birds Movie and guest-starring in Reba McEntire’s short-lived sitcom Malibu Country back in 2013.

According to Deadline, the idea for Dorothy was brought to Shelton by Matthews, and he brought Stefani into the mix soon after. Gwen reportedly described the Dorothy character as a longtime source of inspiration, a perfect fit for the direction the show is taking.

This modern version will use the Yellow Brick Road as a metaphor for the emotional and personal challenges young adults face today. While it’s based on the original Oz books and film, the series may expand into the broader world created by L. Frank Baum, who penned 14 Oz novels.

As of now, there’s no confirmed cast or release date for Dorothy, but it’s definitely one to watch.

Shelton, of course, has plenty on his plate outside of Oz. He’s executive producing a new CBS reality singing competition called The Road, where aspiring country artists will compete for the chance to open for none other than Keith Urban. He also continues to work on the USA Network game show Barmageddon and previously served as a longtime coach on The Voice.

With this Wizard of Oz project, Shelton and Stefani are proving they’re more than just music powerhouses, they’re building a creative empire that’s stretching from Nashville to Hollywood.
