Harper aims to lessen this distance through the relationship between the real and imagined snapshots of the everyday and mundane world we live in. As a mostly self-taught artist, Kevin J Harper finds solace in painting and drawing as it continues to be a central source of play, rejuvenation & transformation for him.

  • Design a Bookmark Contest

    Celebrate Ontario Public Library Week by making a bookmark that showcases why you love your Library!

    This contest is open to all ages. Winners will be chosen from the following age categories: 5 and under, 6-9, 10-12, 13-17, and 18+. Winners will have their bookmarks printed and available at each branch. Pick-up a bookmark submission form, create your design, and return your completed work to any Whitby Public Library location by October 31, 2025. Winners will be selected in November.   

    One submission per person. Designs must be original works. No AI-generated art.

    PINK IN THE RINK WITH THE U14 AAA WHITBY WILDCATS
     
    Join the U14 AAA Whitby Wildcats as they take on The Peterborough Jr. Petes on Wednesday, Oct 22 at Iroquois Park.
     
    Come out for a night full of great hockey, raffles, giveaways, and live performances while supporting the fight against breast cancer.

    Natalie Wilson, owner of High Heal Diaries,  is a 3 time cancer survivor, life coach and motivational speaker. She uses her experience to support other women going through treatment and recovery by offering life coaching, peer and financial support.

    Live performances by :O'Neill High School Band
     
    All proceeds go directly to LakeRidge Health and High Heal Diaries.
     
    Lakeridge Health plays a vital role in supporting local healthcare initiatives, including breast cancer research, prevention and patient care.
    High Heal Diaries key initiative includes raising awareness and funds to support breast cancer survivors. Proceeds raised by High Heal Diaries provide relief for people suffering from the financial hardships of their breast cancer diagnosis.

    Led through the Village by lantern-light, this spine-tingling tour will turn even the toughest cynic into a believer…of the supernatural! Learn about the paranormal investigations that have taken place on site, hear the Museum’s most infamous staff stories, and uncover the tragedies that have occurred in Pickering’ past. Recommended for ages 12 & up.

  • Free Public Stargazing

    Join us, The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, for an evening of free public stargazing along the north shore of Lake Ontario at Millennium Square (south end of Liverpool Road in Pickering).

    Observe the Moon, planets, and stars through our telescopes! Check out astronomy literature at our information booth, and ask us questions to learn more about the stars and planets.

    You can bring your own telescope and we'd be happy to help you set it up and aim it at the Moon.

    Everything gets underway at 6:00 pm with solar-filtered telescopes providing views of sunspots and prominences.

    Please check our website (https://rascto.ca/) for a GO/NO-GO decision based on the weather before heading to the Square.

    Please note that we make our GO/NO-GO calls a few hours before an event but, if the weather worsens, we may have to cancel or wrap up earlier than planned.

    Halloween at the Harbour returns Saturday, October 25 from 6–8 PM! Step into Oshawa’s past with a spooky twist! 

    Explore Henry House by lamplight, eerie mourning décor, coffin hardware, chilling paranormal tales, and “killer dresses.” Discover what bats, snakes, and spiders “see” in the Drive Shed, with an interactive science display from Derek Cutting and art by Dani Crosby. Family fun awaits in Guy House with Lego monsters, face painting, and more! Warm up with hot chocolate before you go.

    When the crypt door creep and the tombstones quake, spooks come out for a swinging wake!

    Welcome foolish mortals! Join us for a night of fun and fright as we celebrate spooky season at our spooktacular Halloween Monster Mash dance party. You and your boo-gie crew will have a killer time shaking your bones on the dance floor to a playlist that is ghoulishly groovy and frightfully fun. Grizelda the Ghastly Gourmet will be brewing some creepy concoctions and possessed potions for the occasion. Add to that some tricks and treats to make the night the perfect graveyard smash. It’s going to be a fang-tastic night of wicked dancing, fun and surprises! 

    Costumes encouraged — prizes awarded for best costumes.
