  • DRPS Polar Plunge

The Durham Regional Police Service is once again hosting its annual Polar Plunge in support of Special Olympics Ontario—and we’re inviting the entire community to join us.

The Polar Plunge is a fun and meaningful way to support Special Olympics athletes by taking a bold leap into very cold water. Last year’s event raised more than $50,000, helping support over 23,000 Special Olympics athletes across Ontario. This year, our goal is to raise $55,000—and with your help, we can do it.

We are calling on local businesses, sports teams, students, and community groups to step up, start a team, and join DRPS in making this the largest Polar Plunge Durham Region has ever seen. Whether you’re plunging with coworkers, teammates, classmates, or friends, every participant and every dollar raised makes a difference.

The Durham Regional Police “Freezin’ for a Reason” Polar Plunge will take place on Saturday, March 28, at the Tribute Communities Centre (99 Athol Street East, Oshawa). Participants will plunge into a pool set up outside the main entrance on Athol Street. Check-in begins at 10:00 a.m., with plunging starting at 11:00 a.m. All participants must check in before taking the plunge.

Not able to brave the cold? Come out and cheer on the plungers and be part of the excitement. Raffle tickets for great prizes will be available on site, offering another fun way to support Special Olympics athletes and this important cause.

Participants can register as an individual or as part of a team. Registration is $40, or you can fundraise $100 to have the registration fee waived. Donations are also welcome for those who want to support without plunging.

  • ‘Outside of the Lines”, an exhibition of art by Monica Dear

    Artist Reception: March 7th 1-3pm

Scugog Arts presents: ‘Outside of the Lines’ an art exhibition by Monica Dear

    March 7th – March 29th , 2026

268 Queen St, Port Perry, ON L9L 1B8

In this collection of bold and expressive drawings, Monica Dear captures the spirit of her subjects through energetic, seemingly chaotic lines and scribbles. Working primarily with gel pen and coloured pencil, she has developed a distinctive visual language that balances structure and colour with a deliberate touch of disorder. The result is work that feels alive; gestural and intuitive, offering just enough information to invite the viewer in.

    All are welcome!
