Monday (August 5) was Dolly Parton Day in Nashville. Mayor David Briley made the proclomation, saying that she is one of Tennessee's greatest education and literacy advocates. Dolly's foundation sends free books to children and provides students with supplies.
Luke Combs has broken another record. This time it's because his debut album, This One's for You, has been number one on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart for 44 weeks. That is the longest time an album by a male artist has held that spot. It's the second longest time for an artist overall, after Shania Twain spent 50 weeks at number one with her 1997 album Come On Over. Randy Travis held the record before with 43 weeks on top of the chart with Always and Forever.
Scotty McCreery will head to Europe this October to headline 4 shows, 2 in Germany and 2 in the U.K. "I've received numerous emails and social media messages from fans asking me to perform in the UK and Germany," says Scotty. "I am happy to finally announce that I'm coming over in October and I cannot wait to be there."
The Canadian Country Music Association announced today that the upcoming awards show will be co-hosted by Dallas Smith and Billy Ray Cyrus. The 2019 CCMA Awards show will air live from Calgary on September 8. "I'm thrilled to be co-hosting this year's CCMA Awards with Billy Ray Cyrus - he's a legend," shared Dallas. "This is going to be a great time and I can't wait to celebrate country's biggest night with everyone." Billy Ray is looking forward to the night as well, "This is really a full circle moment for me because I received my first ever platinum record plaque while I was in Canada in the 90's. We also shot the series 'Doc' in Toronto, so it feels like coming home every time I'm in Canada. I'm really looking forward to co-hosting the show with Dallas."
Riley Green has a number one song with "There Was This Girl" and now he will release his debut album, Different 'Round Here, on September 20. Riley has released two EPs over the last two years and several more while he was an independent artist building his fanbase. He says he learned how to write songs out of the boredom that comes with just doing cover songs.
Thomas Rhett has teamed up with Chubbies to release his own swimsuit line, called the Rhettro Collection. The limited-edition collection features designs for men, women and children. "How cool is it that I got to design a collection with a brand my whole family wears in real life," Thomas said in a press release.
It's official, every one of Luke Combs' songs have gone to number one. His latest, "Beer Never Broke My Heart", tops the Billboard and Mediabase charts. That makes six number ones for Luke. He will also have a song, "Let's Just Be Friends", on the soundtrack to Angry Birds Movie 2, which hits theatres on August 14.
Garth Brooks' Teammates for Kids Foundation has teamed up with Major League Baseball for a new intiative called Home Plate Project. It includes an overall $900,000 commitment, including $300,000 from players to help MLB team charities support local groups dedicated to fighting childhood hunger. It is expected to help around 25,000 children providing more than 3.6 milliion meals. Since Garth co-founded Teammates for Kids with Bo Mitchell in 1999, more than 4700 professional athletes from baseball, football, basketball, hockey, soccer, rodeo and racing have helped raise more than $100 million to help children in over 60 countries.
